"Stop Overcooking Your Eggs! Learn The Foolproof Method From The Master Himself."

Hard-boiled eggs aren’t just for Easter. They’re also a great addition to summertime foods like potato salad and cobb salad. Or, why not switch things up and have a couple for breakfast or a cool egg salad sandwich for lunch?

Likely you’ve been making hard-boiled eggs for a long time. But wouldn’t it be nice to know how to make “perfect” ones? While they’re very simple to cook, if not done right, hard-boiled eggs can turn out rubbery and not very appetizing.

Chef John from Food Wishes shared a method for making hard-boiled eggs that leads to fantastic results.

Follow the steps below and you’ll have perfectly cooked eggs every time. And when Easter does roll around again – simply pull this method out of your back pocket!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Saucepan
  • Eggs

Step 1:

Set your eggs into the bottom of the saucepan. (For the video demonstration, he uses six eggs.) Now, fill to cover them with cold water. Chef John explains a helpful tip, saying:

“They say cover by an inch, but you know what, as long as they’re covered you’re good to go.”

Step 2:

Place your saucepan on high heat. Once the water begins to simmer (don’t bring it to a boil), turn the heat off and immediately cover.

The chef provides a few more details, saying:

“As soon as it starts to simmer, I’m talking just starts to bubble not boiling. It just starts to bubble and the eggs start to dance around just a little, turn off the heat, cover quickly…”

Step 3:

Set a timer for 17 minutes and allow them to sit. Here’s another rule – don’t peek inside the saucepan!

As Chef John suggests, find something else to do during this 17-minute time period. Perhaps you could chop veggies for your yummy salad?

Step 4:

After 17 minutes, carefully pour the water out into your kitchen sink. It’s going to be extremely hot – plus, you don’t want to dump out the eggs.

Step 5:

Immediately add “really cold” water to the pan from your sink and swirl it around.

“This initial blast of cold water really takes most of the heat away from the pan.”

Dump out that water, then fill the saucepan up with new cold water. Let it sit for approximately 20 minutes (or until the eggs are cool).

Step 6:

It’s now time to peel your hard-boiled eggs! Chef John peels his at the sink under running water.

There are other methods for peeling eggs too, like the “tap and roll” trick. According to YouTuber Vijaya Selvaraju, simply tap your egg gently on the kitchen counter. Then “give it a roll” using your palm. The egg should be covered in cracks, and the shell should come off easily.

Ready for the “perfect” hard-boiled eggs?

Slice an egg and you’ll find amazing results. Chef John says:

“The whites are firm, but not rubbery. The yolks are cooked, but still creamy.”

The internet is loving this method too.

Many viewers have left comments expressing they’ve had great results following the steps provided by the chef. One person wrote:

“Just did this method and my eggs came out BOMB! Thanks Chef John :)”

Another said:

“OMG thanks I have been wanting to make the best eggs thanks… I tried and it works”
